Motorola asked is to develop a new retail packaging strategy for their mobile phones and related mobile accessories. We proposed a simple solution that utilized a circle design motif inspired by the iconic Motorola logo to frame the product. For mobile phone boxes, the circle and product was a printed graphic on the packaging; however, for pegged accessories the circle was achieved by a clear plastic blister suspending the product in a circular cutout in the white board.

One of the primary benefits of the simplicity of the design was that it allowed Motorola to easily and cost-effectively produce customized, brand-specific packaging for the various mobile carriers selling the products without diminishing the Motorola brand. The boxes also served as distinctive point-of-sale signage when stacked in multiples, encouraging carriers to display the boxes and giving Motorola a stronger brand presence in-store than their competitors.
